Which Foods Contribute to Healthy Hair?

Brazilian Nuts

Does what you eat play a role in how your hair looks and grows? It does! Which foods help contribute to strong, voluminous, healthy hair? Keep in mind that hair grows from the roots, so if you can improve the health of your scalp and hair follicles, that’s a very good thing… and certain foods help do that!

New hairs get created thanks to nutrients from your body. When you’re taking in a good mix of proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals, that’ll help your hair. So what should you eat?

Eggs

Eggs are excellent. They give your body biotin. It’s a mineral that may help improve hair growth. Did you know that thinning hair and/or a loss of body hair are typically two symptoms of a biotin deficiency? Besides biotin, eggs give your body other minerals, as well as L-lysine and vitamin D– good stuff that helps your hair. If you don’t like eggs, consider eating meat, fish, nuts, seeds, sweet potatoes, spinach and/or broccoli.

Nuts With Selenium

Do you like Brazil nuts? They give your body selenium, a mineral that may help improve hair growth. Ideally, you should eat two to four Brazil nuts daily. You don’t need more than that! You can also get selenium from meat (liver, for example), fish, eggs, milk, breads and cereals.

Fatty Fish

How about fatty fish? When you eat fatty fish you’re getting omega-3s and vitamin D, both of which are good for hair health. What are some examples of fatty fish? Salmon, tuna, mackerel, herring and sardines are all good choices. If you don’t like fish, try walnuts, flaxseeds, or chia seeds.

Vitamin D

Finally, foods fortified with vitamin D are thought to improve hair growth, so soy drinks, yogurt, orange juice and breakfast cereals are some good choices to add to your daily diet. Also look for foods containing niacin, folic acid and vitamins A and C.

Eating certain nutrient-rich foods can help your hair, but sometimes it seems no matter what you do, you’re still unhappy with what’s happening on your head.
