First, take good care of the hair you do have on your head. That means gently massaging shampoo into your scalp and then rinsing it so it flows through the length of your hair. Use conditioner after every shampoo. If you’re spending a lot of time in a swimming pool, wear a swim cap.
Next, consider letting your hair air dry rather than rubbing it with a towel. If you do use a hair dryer, use the lowest heat setting. Limit the time hot combs or curling irons touch your hair. If you use weaves or hair extensions, use light ones that don’t pull. If possible, try a hairstyle that does not pull on your hair and doesn’t require the use of products like gel and other substances. Oh, and if someone told you that hair needs at least 100 brush strokes a day, realize that they didn’t know what they were talking about– it doesn’t!
Are you on a medicine prescribed by your doctor? While some medicines can cause hair loss, it’s important that you don’t just suddenly stop using the medicine you’re on without first consulting your doctor. Whenever you’re taking pills, and those pills may or may not be affecting your hair, it’s best to discuss the situation with your doctor and then follow doctor’s orders. Sometimes a change of medicine will do you good.
Could your hair loss be temporary? Yes. Things like illness, stress and even childbirth could be causing temporary hair loss. Sometimes you just have to wait it out.
Have you been to the dermatologist lately? They can usually help you figure out what the cause of hair loss is if you’re curious.
