The less ferritin in the blood, the less iron a body has stored up. “Normal” ferritin levels are 10-15 ng/mL, while researchers think you’d need a ferritin level of 50 to 70 ng/mL in order to replenish hair.

Who is most likely to become iron deficient? Women of childbearing age with heavy menstrual periods who are losing their hair might want to check with their doctors. Iron deficiency, especially at the point of anemia, can be a symptom of a serious illness.
